Cooking Demonstration for KCC

On the 20th of May,Wednesday afternoon, the PTEK's Korean Culture Club was lucky to be able to learn how to cook one of the most famous Korean snacks. If you watch Korean Dramas, I bet you know what this Korean snack is.

Our sunbaenim-s from UBD gladly agreed to help teach the members on how to cook 떡볶이 (tteokbokki). 떡볶이 (tteokbokki), most commonly known as rice cakes, was the menu for that day. Members of the KCC were very excited to be able to learn to cook at least something Korean. ;).

When the sunbaenim-s came, they first introduced themselves one at a time and told us a little bit of what we were going to cook that day and the ingredients needed.

Finally! Let the cooking begin!

Adding on the water, sugar, onions, white rice cakes, fish cakes and the star of the dish, 고추장 (gochujang), a spicy Korean condiment. (Like a hotsauce).

waiting for the dish to simmer.

The final touch that was put into the dish was the sesame oil, which gave the dish a compelling smell and a distinct aroma that filled the room.

And the moment everyone has been waiting for, TASTING!

The members had positive reviews on how the 떡볶이 tasted like and because of their excitement to try quite a new dish, they finished off the whole pan of 떡볶이.

The sunbaenim-s also brought along 김치 (kimchi) with them which the members also savoured. Too bad, 김치 wasn't demonstrated as it will take a long time to ferment it.

Group pictures!
When most of the members of the KCC had left, two members from the cooking committee for the Korean Culture Day stayed a while in the Cookery Class to get the chance to cook the 떡볶이 themselves. It was part of their practice to prepare them for their cooking spree in July.

Modifications were done, that's why this version tasted much different from the version cooked by the sunbaenim-s. :).

Of course, our version (without the fish cakes) of 떡볶이 was shared with the people at the waiting area.

Now, wasn't that very easy to cook?
I hope this was insightful for all those cooking enthusiasts out there!

Once again, I, on behalf of the whole Korean Culture Club, would like to thank our UBD sunbaenim-s for the cooking demonstration!

To all those who tasted the delicious 떡볶이 that day, thank you for the willingness to taste it and I hope you guys liked it. :)
To all those who have not, you can wait until the Korean Culture Day! Anticipate it! ;)

credits to Ziqah from the KCC for the pictures!
